live audio dispatch
Sooner or later it will probably happen to you: An inevitable emergency will occur, and you'll need an
ambulance, fire equipment or a police officer. How do you contact the right person? It's easy. Go to
the nearest telephone and dial 9-1-1.

A trained emergency dispatcher will answer your call and request information about your emergency.
Based on the nature of the emergency, the dispatcher will summon police, fire, or emergency medical
response. When you call 911, stay calm. Dispatchers can't help you if they can't understand you. Take
a deep breath and think before you talk. Speak slowly and clearly.

When reporting a FIRE, the following questions will be asked.

1. Where is the location of the fire?
2. What type of fire is it? (Example: structure, brush, vehicle, or dumpster)
3. Is anyone in danger? Is the structure or vehicle is it occupied?
4. What is the extent of the fire? (Example: odor, smoke, or flames showing)
5. Give the 911 operator any information that is important about the fire.

When reporting a MEDICAL EMERGENCY, the following questions will be asked.

1. What is the location of the sick or injured person?
2. What is the nature of the injury or illness?
3. Does the patient have any known history or on any medications?
4. Give the 911 operator any addition information you may have on the patient.

When reporting a CRIME, the following questions will be asked.

Where, What, Who, When, Why, and How?
1. Where are you? Where is the scene?
2. What happened?
3. Who's involved? Is anyone hurt?
4. When did it happen? Is it going on right now?
5. Why? Follow-up questions.
6. How do you know?
